The Weinermobile!

Date published: August 22, 2005

One of the coolest vehicles I've ever seen.

Today while out to lunch, I happened to notice the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile in the Don Pablos parking lot. Man, the thing is huge, it's like a Winnebago with the body of a hot dog and bun. Actually, it's a bit smaller than that, but you get my point. Luckily my coworker Mary had her cell phone with her and she snapped the great shot that appears in the banner above.

After I thought about it a bit, I was surprised that Oscar Meyer doesn't have more of these things driving around the US. It's a great publicity piece. While Mary and I were there, 2 other cars came by to look at it as well. Of course, here I am posting about it in my journal, so clearly the vehicle gets people talking! Great publicity. I'm thinking maybe they're just not easy to drive or too expensive to manufacture a lot of them, and that's why one doesn't here more about them.

A quick Google image search did in fact show up some others who have witness this beast, but not as many images as I would have thought. Interestingly though, the image search did turn up another mobile, the Kissmobile. I think that the first shot is years older than the second. One doesn't here as much about the Caramel and Dark flavors anymore, and the Hershey's logo is different on the two different mobiles, making me think one image is older. Hell, for all I know, the two shots below could be of the same vehicle, just with different paint jobs. More research is needed.

Regardless, the Weinermobile is still cooler. The back two kisses on the Kissmobile appear to just be for storage, whereas the Weinermobile appears to have one big space instead of three plus room for storage.
