Time for the puzzle competition again

Date published: June 10, 2005

Some of the solutions to the 2004 competition

Two years ago in June, I participated in my first ever puzzle competition. A year later in June, I participated in the competition again. My third time participating is just over a week away.

Puzzling isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I tend to enjoy it. I guess I've always had a problem solving mind and being that my score improved from one year to the next, one might even conclude that my ability to problem solve is improving. That being said, let's hope my score is even better than the previous two years' scores.

If you're interested in logic puzzles and such, you should sign up and participate. The competition is on Saturday June 18th at 1pm. There is quite a range in the puzzle types, and you don't even need to leave your home to play. It's a two-hour, timed test. You download an encrypted PDF with the puzzles in it a day before the competition, and then at 1pm on Saturday they publish the password to the PDF on their website. Next, you've got two hours to do as many puzzles as you can and submit your answers through a form on their site. Don't expect to complete all the puzzles as they've intentionally put more puzzles in the competition than can be completed in the two-hour period. They just have a lot of puzzles so people can choose which puzzles they want to try.

For more info and to sign up to participate, go to the US Puzzle Championship website. If you go to the History section, you can download past puzzles to see if you'd be interested or not.
