Sticky Lips, Rochester's newest BBQ joint

Date published: June 11, 2005

Mmmm, pulled pork

Today, James and I tried out a BBQ restaurant that I've been hearing good things about. It's called Sticky Lips. Apparently it opened in late April of 2004, though I've only been hearing about it for a couple months now. The good news is that it's just up the road about a mile. I had pulled pork with BBQ beans, sweet potato fries, and cornbread. To drink, I had loganberry juice, something I'd never had before.

What can I say, it was a great meal all around. The most famous BBQ place here in Rochester is Dinosaur BBQ, but in my opinion Sticky Lips is better. The biggest downsides to Dinosaur is it's location and the excruciatingly long wait to get seated and actually get your food. Sticky Lips beats Dinosaur in all these areas, and like Dinosaur, Sticky Lips has a line of it's own sauces. Plus, price is about the same if not slightly cheaper.

Dinosaur has always been know for it's unique atmosphere. It's sort of a biker bar. Of course it wouldn't make sense for Sticky Lips to mimic that atmosphere, and they don't. Rather, they go the route of 1940s and 50s nostalgia. You'll find framed newspaper headlines and old gasoline signs hanging all around. Their logo even references World War II "nose art", decorative art sometimes featuring a pin-up girl that appeared on combat aircraft.

Anyway, if you're in Rochester or will be visiting, you should definitely check this place out. You can find more information including their location and hours of operation on the Stick Lips website.
