CSH reminiscing

Date published: April 19, 2001

Today was one of the best days I've had in what seems like 3 years. I am happy. First I got my car fixed and the tires changed. Nothing big about that really. Then I had a little business meeting for an hour and a half...nothing really spectacular about that either, but then everything just started being great.

In case you don't know, I'm a member of a special interest house known as Computer Science House (CSH). It's easiest to say that it is basically the same thing as a fraternity house, except that it's focused around computers. Anyway, I had a good talk with Sandler (friend and fellow house member), and then a house member who was active from 1981 to about 1992, Frank Giuffrida, showed up on floor. I talked with him for a bit about how the house used to be. Most of the new members don't have any idea what it used to be like...and it was just cool talking with people other than Dez and Rene about thing like how the house used to be in Fish and such. Don't get me wrong though, I love talking with both Dez and Rene, it was just cool to reminisce with another person. After that, David Farkas showed up. I've known Farkas since my first year at RIT. My sophomore year, he was one of the house social directors, then my junior year I took over his position and became one of the house's social directors. Anyway, we talked for hours and time flew by. We looked through all kinds of house pictures and just told stories and such. Good times. Just story after story of old times...I guess, I've just not had a lot of people from my freshman year to hang around with lately, and I had become a bit bitter about the house because it started doing things different. Having others to talk about the old times with helps bring some good closure to my most active years in CSH.

It's funny how alumni are bringing up views that I've expressed before, but now, unlike before, people are listening. For example, alumni contacts are at a low point. Frank and I talked some about it for a while, and the newer CSH members sat around and listened. Hopefully they'll take it into consideration and possibly try alleviating it. I have really high hopes for next year in CSH...and I think the new executive board will address many of the issues that this year's executive board did not.
